Myagdi. Thirteen hydropower projects with a capacity of 238.23 megawatts have been commissioned in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality of the district.

With the commissioning of hydropower projects in the Myagdi and tributary rivers flowing from the foothills of the world’s seventh highest mountain, Dhaulagiri, it is expected that Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality, which is located in a geographically remote and remote area, will develop.

Prem Prasad Pun, Chairman of the Rural Municipality, said that construction of two projects with a capacity of 90.5 megawatts has begun and two projects with a capacity of 71.5 megawatts are in the construction process.

According to the Department of Power Development, an additional 76.23 megawatts have been added to the geography of Dhaulagiri. Nine projects with a capacity of 100,000 m are in the process of construction.

‘The project, built by cutting through the mountains, has expanded the road network here and made transportation easier for locals. Employment and income-generating opportunities have been created, and the locals have been supported in the areas of education, health and others,’ said Chairman Pun. ‘In the long term, the royalty (Salami Darastur) received from the sale of electricity generated by the project can be used to build infrastructure in the rural municipality and provide services to the citizens.’

The project office has stated that 16.5 percent physical progress has been made on the 53.5 MW Upper Myagdi-1 promoted by Myagdi Hydropower Limited, whose construction began last Bhadra.

The water brought through a 5.700 km tunnel through a dam in Khamla, Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-4 will be dropped from a height of 196 meters to a power house in Malika Rural Municipality-7 Bharwang to generate electricity, informed Project Chief Jyoti Kumar KC. .

According to him, the total cost of this project, which aims to generate regular electricity from Falgun 21, 2083 BS, is estimated at Rs 11.23 billion 27 million.

The Upper Myagdi Hydropower Project, promoted by Hydroimper Pvt. Ltd., has started construction of a four-km-long tunnel connecting Ghimleti from the dam of Dhawalagiri-4 Simkosh Dobhan.

The head of the said project, Ramesh Subedi, informed that the construction of the dam, tunnel and power house has started with the aim of completing it by mid-Chait 2082 BS. The total cost of this project is estimated at Rs 6.69 billion 94.95 million.

The proposed power house construction site of the 65 MW Myagdi Khola Hydropower Project promoted by Hydrovillage at Dhawalagiri-4, Jeltung has recently been connected to the road network.

The road connecting Bagar from the Upper Myagdi-1 dam in Khamla via Naura is six km long. Hari Prasad Tilija, a ward member of Dhaulagiri-4, said that preparations are underway to continue the construction of the access road to Dobhan, which is 12 km from Jeltung.

The 6.5 MW capacity Darkhola Hydropower Project in Dhaulagiri-3 has prepared for infrastructure construction.

Resham Bahadur Bhandari, Chairman of Darkhola Hydropower, said that preparations are underway to start the construction of the dam, penstock pipeline and power house from this year after completing the power purchase agreement, financial resources, land management and other work.

The Darkhola Hydropower Project, which aims to generate electricity by Falgun 2083 BS, will be constructed at the dam Dhaulagiri-3. A power house has been proposed in Kunauto and Solwang of the same ward. He informed that there will be a three-kilometer and one-hundred-meter penstock pipeline.

The Department of Electricity Development has given permission to the concerned promoter companies for the construction of infrastructure for the Mudikhola hydropower projects with a capacity of 14.70 MW in Mudi, Myagdikhola (A) with a capacity of 23.70 MW in Dhaulagiri-4, Dhaulagiri-1 Gurja, Dhaulagiri-1 and Mudikhola hydropower projects with a capacity of 15 MW in Dhaulagiri-1.

Dhaulagiri-4 Ward Chairman Yam Bahadur Gharti informed that the projects, which have already completed the environmental assessment and detailed project report (DPR), are in the process of on-site survey, financial resource management and electricity purchase and sale. .

According to him, various promoter companies have obtained permission from the Department of Electricity Development for the construction and survey of the 14.70 MW Mudikhola, 20 MW Kunbankhola, 3.45 MW Simkosh, 12.73 MW Upper Mudi, 9.5 MW Myagdikhola (B) and 4.6 MW Tirijakhola hydropower projects.

With the aim of connecting the electricity generated from the hydropower projects under construction on the Myagdi River and its tributaries to the central grid, the Nepal Electricity Authority has completed the construction of a substation in Malika Rural Municipality-7, Dandakhet. .

Project Chief Roshan Agrawal informed that the work of the Dandakhet substation, which has reached 85 percent physical progress, has started with the target of completing it within the next three months with 133/33 kV, 30 MVA capacity and AIS technology equipment.

A contract agreement for the construction of a 25-kilometer 132 kV capacity transmission line connecting Dandakhet to Ambang in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-3 Rahughat and substations at both locations was signed on December 31, 2021 for US$ 26 million.

The contract agreement, which expired on July 16, has been extended until November 16, 2025. .

Gandaki Provincial Assembly Member Resham Bahadur Jugjali said that construction of hydropower projects on the Kaligandaki, Myagdi, Rahughat and tributaries has gained momentum after the construction of the 220 kV Dana substation and the 132 kV Dandakhet-Rahughat substation and transmission line began to gain momentum.
