Myagdi. Twelve hydropower projects are under construction in Kaligandaki, Myagdi, Rahughat and Nilgiri rivers. Once these projects are completed, 456.5 megawatts of electricity will be added to the national transmission line. Four projects from Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi have sent 111 megawatts of electricity to the national transmission line in the last five years.

Some of the projects under construction are being connected to the central transmission line this fiscal year and some next year. Some projects are preparing to build access roads and dig tunnels. Similarly, the 40.7 MW Nilgiri First, 37.5 MW Mangale Rahughat and 6 MW Relekhola projects are in the final stages.

The 71 MW Nilgiri Second, 42 MW Mistrikhola, 14 MW Gharkhola and 5 MW Ghalemdikhola hydropower projects constructed in Annapurna Rural Municipality have already been connected to the central transmission line.

The construction of the 66.5 MW Madhya Kali Gandaki Hydropower Project has begun in Annapurna Rural Municipality. The 180-megawatt Kaligandaki Hydropower Project, estimated to cost Rs 39.5 billion 24 million, has prepared for construction by managing financial resources.

On the Rahughat River flowing through Raghuganga Rural Municipality, the 40-megawatt Rahughat Hydropower Project, the 48.5-megawatt Upper Rahughat, the 21.3-megawatt Thulokhola Hydropower Project, and the 22.5-megawatt Thulokhola Upper ‘A’ Hydropower Project are in the final stages of construction.

All these projects will start generating electricity within a year, said Raghuganga Chairman Bhava Bahadur Bhandari. According to him, the 37.5 MW Mangale Rahughat has prepared for test production.

The 25 MW Darbang Myagdikhola Project, 53 MW Upper Myagdi-1 and 37 MW Upper Myagdi in the Myagdikhola watershed are rapidly constructing tunnels, while the 57 MW Myagdikhola Hydropower Project is constructing an access road, said Prem Prasad Pun, chairman of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality.

The 180 MW Kaligandaki Gorge, 66.5 MW Madhya Kaligandaki, 58 MW Tiplyang Kaligandaki, 65 Projects with a capacity of about 388 MW, including the 2,000 MW Upper Kaligandaki and the 50.53 MW Beni Kaligandaki, are in the construction process after signing a purchase agreement with the Electricity Development Department. The process has been stopped due to the obstruction of Beni, the headquarters of Myagdi, in the ‘alignment’ of Beni Kaligandaki.

The 220 kV capacity Kaligandaki Corridor Dana-Khurkot transmission line and substation have been constructed to connect the hydropower projects built and under construction in Myagdi to the central grid.

The 132 kV capacity Dandakhet-Rahughat transmission line and substation are under construction. Gandaki Provincial Assembly member Resham Bahadur Jugjali said that the hydropower project has started gaining momentum with the construction of substations and transmission lines.
