10-month foreign trade: Exports and imports increased by 72.7 percent, 13.1 percent respectively

Kathmandu. Total merchandise exports increased by 72.7 percent to Rs 217.91 billion in the ten months of the fiscal year 2081/82 BS. In the same period of the previous year, such exports had decreased by 3.6 percent.

In terms of destination, exports to India, China and other countries increased by 104.7 percent, 5.1 percent and 4.2 percent respectively. On a commodity basis, exports of vegetable oil, polyester yarn, tea, jute goods, pina and other items increased, while exports of palm oil, zinc sheet, readymade garments, juice, cardamom and other items decreased.

In the ten months of the fiscal year 2081/82, the total import of goods increased by 13.1 percent to Rs 1474.19 billion. In the same period of the previous year, such imports had decreased by 2.4 percent.

Imports from India, China and other countries increased by 7.9 per cent, 15.1 per cent and 28.3 per cent, respectively.

Imports of crude oil, rice/ paddy, edible oil, transport equipment, vehicles and spare parts, sponge iron and other items have increased while imports of petroleum products, gold, electrical equipment, chemical fertilizers, coal and other items have decreased.

Exports from major transit points except Jaleshwor, Kanchanpur and Tatopani have increased. On the import side, imports from bhairahawa, Biratnagar, Birgunj, dry port, Jaleshwor, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Krishnanagar, Mechi, Nepalgunj, Rasuwa, Tatopani and Tribhuvan Airport customs offices have increased.

In the ten months of the fiscal year 2081/82, the total merchandise trade deficit increased by 6.7 percent to Rs 1256.28 billion. In the same period of the previous year, such losses had decreased by 2.3 percent.

The export-import ratio has reached 14.8 percent. In the same period last year, the ratio was 9.7 percent.

During the review period, goods worth Rs 152.48 billion were imported from India by making foreign exchange payments. In the same period of the previous year, such imports amounted to Rs 122.2 billion.
