Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched awareness programmes in all 32 wards to control cholera disease. Rishi Bhusal, contact person for epidemic disease prevention and control of the metropolis, informed that preparations have also been made to test the samples of drinking water of the citizens along with the orientation program.
According to him, the metropolitan city has launched an awareness programme to control cholera patients, anticipating an increase in cholera cases as the monsoon has arrived early this year compared to the previous years.
Bhusal informed that the programme has been started in all the 32 wards of the metropolis. Cholera patients were found in Balkhu, Kalimati and Tankeshwar areas in the past years. Cholera is one of the bacterial diseases caused by contaminated water. Drinking water and food are considered to be the main causes of cholera. Doctors say that the disease is transmitted to people due to lack of attention to personal or surrounding hygiene and coming in contact with asymptomatic infected people. Cholera is caused by bacterial infections. If this disease, which usually causes diarrhea, is not treated immediately, the patient can even die.
