Kathmandu. Nepali Congress (NC) central member Mahesh Acharya has stressed the need for capable and committed leadership to take the country towards rapid economic transformation. He was speaking at a seminar organized on the occasion of the 102nd birth anniversary of party’s former president and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

He said the country now needs a prime minister who works 18 hours a day. Stating that there is no fight for democracy left in the country, he stressed the need to move ahead keeping the economic agenda at the centre.

Stating that China and India rank second and third respectively in terms of global economy, he said Nepal should not get entangled in unnecessary debates.

“The country now needs a prime minister who works 18 hours a day. We need a prime minister who works on an economic agenda. There is no longer an issue of democracy in Nepal. Now there is only one issue – to take this country to rapid development. Why it was necessary is also related to nationalism. ‘

“India is in the process of becoming the world’s third largest economy. China is the second largest economy. How can we protect the identity of our country if we leave these two countries together and sit in unnecessary comments and debates? We also need to use energetic youth to strengthen the country’s nationalism. How will the country move forward with the act of forcing the youth to be used abroad?” he asked.

Economic reforms and job creation should be the top priorities of the government, he added.
