Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has said the government aims to reach 100 percent electricity access across the country within the next two years. Minister Khadka said this while replying to the questions raised on the Appropriation Bill in the Meeting of the National Assembly on Wednesday.
He said that the programmes have been forwarded with the goal of increasing the annual per capita electricity consumption to 1500 units after two years. He expressed the belief that if this target is achieved, the country would be established as an energy exporting nation and revenue of Rs 88.86 billion would be collected.
He claimed that 865,188 people would get direct employment during the construction of power infrastructure and projects.
“We are working with the goal of ensuring 100 per cent access to electricity within the next two years,” he said. Work is underway to increase the annual per capita electricity consumption to 1500 units in this ten years. I would also like to submit that it will establish the country as an energy exporting country. While achieving this target, the revenue will be Rs 88.86 billion. A total of 865,188 people will get direct employment through an estimated employment generation. It will also indirectly create millions of people. The government has stepped up its activities to implement this goal. ’
Minister Khadka said that the government has set a target of generating 28,500 MW electricity by 2035.
