Triveni (Nawalparasi). The physical progress of narayangadh-Butwal road construction project has reached 69 percent.

Information Officer of Narayangadh-Butwal Road Project Eastern Section, Shiva Khanal, said that the physical progress of the construction has reached 69 percent as the deadline extended for the third time is coming to an end.

China State Construction Corporation Pvt Ltd had started the work of narayangadh-Butwal road expansion project on August 15, 2019.

The deadline was extended for the second time till July 15, 2018 as the work was not completed within the stipulated time. The deadline was extended for the third time in July 2018 as the work was not completed even during this period. By the end of this period, 69 percent of the work has been completed.

According to Information Officer Khanal, the process of extending the deadline for the fourth time has been forwarded. A total of 113 kilometers of Narayangadh-Butwal road was divided into two sections. China State Construction Corporation Pvt Ltd, which is responsible for the construction, has sought an extension of 576 days.

Information Officer Khanal said preparations have been made to extend the deadline only for one year. He said that one can travel on 55 kilometers of blacktopped road from Narayangadh to Dumkibas as preparations are being made to extend the deadline for the fourth time.

Information Officer Khanal said that only some parts of Chormara Bazar, Arunkhola and Dumkibas Bazaar of this section are yet to be blacktopped. Traffic has been operating from the diversion after a bridge at Binayi Khola of Dumkibas along the Narayan-Butwal road section collapsed.

After the bridge collapsed in December last year, traffic has been crossing the diversion. Drivers and passengers have been facing problems due to frequent floods caused by the rains. The project has constructed a new bridge next to the broken bridge. Information Officer Khanal said that the bridge will be operational in two to three days.

He said that if the weather permits, the bridge will be blacktopped on Wednesday and it will be operated on Saturday. If the new bridge comes into operation, it will be easier for the drivers and passengers who are suffering due to diversion.

However, the construction work of the bridge will be carried out at Arunkhola and Giruwari rivulet under the long bridge in Nawalpur section after the rainy season. Information Officer Khanal said that although some of the works that can be normalized are regular, the construction of these bridges will not be completed before the rainy season.

Project Information Officer Khanal said that the work would be focused on making the daunne section of the Narayan-Butwal road section easier. There has been a problem in the operation of traffic in the daunne section as soon as it rains.

Information Officer Khanal said that only repair work will be carried out by stopping the construction work in daunne section. According to him, repair works are being carried out only for smooth operation of traffic by stopping the construction of the culvert and other works.

He said that their focus is to carry out regular repair works by placing gravel in daunne section and to avoid problems in transportation operation even if it rains.

A total of Rs 16.99 billion has been spent on both the sections of the road expansion project, which has been forwarded with the loan assistance of The Asian Development Bank (ADB). Out of the 113 kilometers of roads, 70 kilometers will have four lanes, 29 kilometers will have four lanes and 6÷6 meters service lanes on both sides.

Daunne will have a 14-km three-lane road. Commuters have been facing problems for a long time due to lack of timely completion of important highway expansion projects.

Now the work has gained momentum and there is some ease in travel. The problem is still the same. Even when there is normal rainfall in the area, the road has become slippery and has to be blocked for hours. rss
