Agency. South Korea’s top prosecutor has resigned nearly nine months after taking office in September last year. General Prosecutor Shim Wu-jung has resigned.
His retirement ceremony will be held on Wednesday. President Lee Jae-myung, who was sworn in as the country’s 21st president on June 4, has vowed to dismantle the power of the prosecution by giving it to the police, stripping the prosecution of all powers to investigate.
According to the law, prosecutors are currently allowed to investigate some serious crimes.
