Government ready to protect citizens and property from disasters: Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that the government is ready to prevent disaster-related damage and protect citizens and property after the disaster. He was speaking after an agreement was signed between the Airline Operators’ Association and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority regarding the use of private helicopters for air rescue in disaster response in Singha Durbar on Tuesday.

He said that the risk of disaster in Nepal is high and it is now in the early stages of monsoon. According to him, monsoon-related disasters in Nepal cause huge loss of life and property. According to him, the Airline Operators Association has signed an agreement to rescue the airlines free of cost by helicopter if there is a risk anywhere in the Kathmandu Valley.

An agreement has been signed between the government and the Airline Operators’ Association to provide free rescue in case of disaster-related hazards in the Kathmandu Valley. Outside the Valley, airline operators have agreed to carry out the rescue operation cost if needed. The Ministry of Home Affairs will manage the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal who are involved in the search and rescue operation.
