Acting Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh and government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung have held discussions on making the disaster information flow system effective. In the discussion held at the Ministry of Urban Development today, the work that the Ministry of Communications can do for information flow was discussed.
The National Disaster Management Council meeting chaired by Acting Prime Minister Singh on Sunday decided to effectively distribute early warnings after weather forecasts, keeping in mind disaster risks, the Ministry of Urban Development has said. The discussions took place between Acting Prime Minister Singh and Minister for Communications Gurung on sending SMS to locals to stay safe during and around heavy rainfall, broadcasting weather bulletins and information through local FM and social media, and playing ‘Early Warning Ring’ on mobile phones to alert people in risk areas in a timely manner. During the meeting, Minister for Communications Gurung said that necessary coordination would be made after discussions with the concerned bodies.
Acting Prime Minister Singh had stressed the need to make the flow of information effective, saying that if early warning is made effective according to weather forecasts during disasters, it will play an important role in reducing potential risks and preventing damage.
