Kathmandu. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has proposed that the ranks from office assistant to constable in the Nepal Police should be called the ‘basic level’. During the discussion on the amendment proposals registered on the bill to amend and consolidate the laws related to the Nepal Police in the meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives, Home Minister Lekhak proposed that it would be appropriate to keep the ranks from office assistant to constable at the basic level.

‘In the police, the words from office assistant to constable to constable were used as low-level employees. I have introduced a new word,’ said Home Minister Lekhak, ‘I have said that the employees of those ranks in the police should be called the basic level. There are a large number of constables and constables in the police service. Since they are the level that is most engaged in ‘duty’ on the streets, let’s call it the basic level during the law-making process. Let’s use it as a basic level in our speech as well.’

Minister Lekhak said that the government is in favor of enacting a Police Act by prioritizing the service facilities of those levels of police personnel who are deployed for a long time. ‘It is our common objective to improve the overall aspect of how the Nepal Police fulfills its responsibilities from the security of the nation and the entire career development from the time of entry into the Nepal Police to the time of retirement.’

Home Minister Lekhak said, ‘The law related to the Nepal Police is one of the oldest in this country. In the context where this law has not been amended in a timely manner, I request everyone to move forward the bill quickly so that it is passed in this session of the Federal Parliament.’
