Kathmandu. Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel, while addressing the United Nations Regional Ministerial Meeting, has informed the world community about Nepal’s ongoing efforts in the field of digital health. At the conference held in Bangkok, Thailand, Minister Poudel, representing Nepal, expressed his commitment that Nepal has taken a policy-level decision to integrate the health data of its citizens, which is still scattered.
He said, “Nepal has started incorporating population information into the citizen identity card and is working to obtain integrated data by linking it to health.” Minister Poudel stated that the problem seen in policy formulation due to the lack of integrated data is now expected to be managed and said that inter-ministerial cooperation in digital health reform will be further expanded.
During the conference, during talks with Armida Salisa Alisjavana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific Region, Minister Poudel said that cooperation from the organization is expected as there will be technical difficulties in transforming the digital system. .
Dhundiraj Niraula, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, said that Nepal has received positive feedback from the Asia-Pacific region on its ongoing efforts, which has encouraged it to do more. Stating that the ministry is moving ahead with work to bring out a population policy soon, he informed that the digital system will play a special role in this.
