Darchula. The construction of the Ghoreto road connecting Dumling of Byas Rural Municipality-1, Chhangru and 2 has begun since last Jestha 25 through the federal government’s temporary budget. The Mission-Deohari JV Construction Company has started the construction of the Ghoreto road at a total cost of Rs 56 million, 99 thousand, 944.
A bid was invited on Falgun 13, 2081 under the temporary grant of the federal government at a total cost of Rs 55 million. The construction of the Ghoreto road in this area has begun after the Mission-Deohari JV won the contract at the lowest price in the bid.
The construction company has been given a work order to complete it by Asar 15. Accordingly, more than 60 percent of the work has been completed so far, informed Prem Kottari, Sub-Engineer of the Rural Municipality. The rural municipality is preparing to extend the construction work until Asad 20.
Currently, the construction company is working on constructing the Ghoreto road in the Budi, Dopakhe, Ghantibagar and Api Khola areas of Byas. The target is to complete about 90 percent of the work within the specified time period, said Keshav Bahadur Pal, representative of Mission Deohari JV.
Since the responsibility of constructing the Ghoreto road in Byas, which has been blocked for almost three decades, the target is to complete the specified work as soon as possible. More than 120 workers have been mobilized in this area. The target can be found while the construction work is underway.
‘We have almost completed the construction work in difficult places,’ said construction entrepreneur Pal. ‘The weather cooperated in a short time, making it easy to work.’ A 31-kilometer stretch of Ghoreto road is being constructed to connect the two wards. Although it was a challenge to build a wall on the banks of the Mahakali River, the work has now been completed in that area.
The Ghoreto road built during the Panchayat period had recently collapsed. The road had collapsed in many places when India was building the road. Now, a Ghoreto road has been constructed again on the banks of the Mahakali River. Due to the lack of proper maintenance in the collapsed areas, the movement of the locals of Byas-1 was disrupted. Due to this, the locals of Chhangru and Tinkar in Byas are forced to use the Indian road. The municipality believes that after the construction of the pedestrian walkway, it will be easier for locals to walk through their own land.
10 million budget for Tinker Road construction
Although the government has allocated a separate budget heading for Tinker Road from the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83, the budget has been kept low. While the Tusarpani-Tinker section has been given a separate budget heading from the Mahakali Corridor, only 10 million has been allocated for road construction.
There has been criticism that only a small budget has been given to the Tusarpani-Tinker section under the Mahakali Corridor, which is being constructed by the Nepal Army. Dilendra Prasad Badu, a member of the House of Representatives elected from Darchula and former minister, had criticized the low budget for the Darchula-Tinker road in Parliament.
Although the Nepali Army is constructing the nearly 79-kilometer-long road, the work is slowing down due to lack of budget. In the current fiscal year, the army has started the work of opening the road tracks from both sides by sending excavators to Chhangru via helicopter.
