‘If we can control demand and supply, we can control drug addiction’: Inspector General of Police Thapa

Kathmandu. Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa has said that drug addiction can be controlled if everyone is united. He said this while speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Kathmandu on Thursday.

He said that the drug menace is increasing in the Kathmandu Valley. Keeping this in mind, Nepal Police said that the Kathmandu Valley Police Office is vigorously promoting the drug prevention and control campaign throughout the Kathmandu Valley.

He said that all municipalities, all districts and schools are moving forward with awareness programs in the anti-drug campaign.

He said that it is necessary to move forward by making a plan on how to control the demand and supply of drugs. Nepal Police reported that by the month of May of the current fiscal year, 65 percent more marijuana, 77 percent more opium, 79 percent more heroin, and 53 percent more other drugs were seized than in the previous fiscal year.

He said, “The drug problem is increasing in the Kathmandu Valley. Currently, the Kathmandu Valley Police Office is vigorously promoting the drug prevention and control campaign throughout the Kathmandu Valley. We are taking awareness programs to all municipalities, all districts, and school levels in our anti-drug campaign. If everyone is united, we can control drug addiction. We need to make a program on how to control demand and supply.” Nepal Police has seized 65 percent more marijuana, 77 percent more opium, 79 percent more heroin, and 53 percent more other drugs in the current fiscal year, compared to the previous fiscal year.’

He said that the issue of reducing, preventing, and controlling drugs is becoming serious. He said that if everyone fails to unite in time in the control and eradication of drugs, there is a situation where productive and creative young manpower will be lost.
