Government to establish Narcotics Control Department

Kathmandu. The government is set to establish a Narcotics Control Department in the coming fiscal year to control narcotics. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak made this announcement while speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Kathmandu on Thursday.

He said that the government has given high priority to drug control and informed that the government will establish a separate department under the Home Ministry in the coming fiscal year to control narcotics. The Home Minister Lekhak also said that the Ministry of Home Affairs is working on various plans to control drugs.

He said that drugs have spread a lot and society is being affected by it, adding that among the prisoners in prisons across the country, the second largest number of people are drug addicts, storers, and traffickers.

The Home Minister Lekhak said, “The government has given high priority to drug control. As you have said, we will soon establish a separate department to control drugs. I announce this. A Drug Control Department will be established under the Ministry of Home Affairs in the coming fiscal year. I would like to make this request.” The Ministry of Home Affairs is working on various plans to control drugs.’

Home Minister Lekhak said that he has been working with great interest in drug control since he joined the ministry, adding that drugs are a problem in themselves and are also creating other problems in society.
