Kathmandu. Nepal Tourism Board Executive Director Deepak Raj Joshi has said that the expected number of tourists has not been able to be brought in due to the poor condition of the infrastructure. Speaking at the orientation training program for tourist drivers and co-drivers organized by the Nepal Tourist Transport Entrepreneurs Association and the Nepal Tourism Board, Executive Director Joshi said this.

He claimed that the condition of the internal roads apart from the main roads has improved recently and that the number of tourist arrivals will also improve as the roads connecting the main destinations are also about to be completed within the next two years.

Executive Director Joshi clarified that the behavior of the tourist drivers and co-drivers met on the frontline has made Nepal’s image known as the best in the world and the best Nepalis. Despite the many shortcomings in infrastructure, he urged stakeholders to work to save the image of Nepal built through hospitality.

He said, ‘Today, the number of tourists is not as much as we thought. There is a lot of investment, both in the transportation sector and in the hotel sector, and you all understand why it is not happening. Due to the weak state of our basic infrastructure, we are not able to bring in the expected number of tourists. However, in recent times, the Nepal government and the local level have also put a lot of emphasis on infrastructure. Except for the main road, all the internal roads have been repaired. The main road, as well as the roads connecting our main destinations, are being completed in the next one and a half to two years.’

‘When we talk about the transportation sector, quality and cleanliness are there, and apart from that, there is the hospitality provided to tourists, which we have to maintain. That is the reason why tourists coming to Nepal keep coming back after coming once. About 36 percent of tourists keep coming back after coming once. You are the ones who are met on the frontline, it is because of you that the image of Nepal has been created as the best and most beautiful Nepali in the world. Professionalism is increasing day by day, so you should be optimistic that soon our tourism will really be good. We have been providing good hospitality till now and despite so many weaknesses in the infrastructure, please continue to protect the image of Nepal,’ he said.

He claimed that tourists who have come once come back again and again due to the hospitality given to tourists, including the quality of tourist transport, cleanliness.
