Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has expressed the view that revenue can be increased by making the postal service credible, reliable and fast. In an interaction on the progress review of the fiscal year 2081.82 organized by the Department of Postal Services here today, Minister Gurung pointed out the need for a new act to make the post office modern and smart. ‘The ministry is actively working to modernize the post office, and the policy formulation for the construction of a modern post office is in the final stage,’ he said.
He also suggested increasing the capacity of employees. ‘We will bring the Postal Act this year, work is being done with a plan to make the local postal structure more effective, and for this, full cooperation and support of employees is needed,’ he said. Minister Gurung also mentioned that at least one motorbike will be provided to the local level post office within this year. He said that although there is no sufficient budget allocation for the postal service in the upcoming fiscal year 2082.83, he has made every effort to increase the budget based on the need and to raise other resources.
During the program, Joint Secretary of the Ministry, Koshari Niraula, said that the Ministry is always positive for the growth and development of the postal service and that efforts are being made to connect the postal service with e-commerce. Director General of the Postal Department, Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeni, said that they have been collaborating with the local level to bring the postal service to the doorsteps of the people.
