Myagdi. A drinking water project has been constructed in Beni Municipality (5 Pulachaur of the district using ‘lift’ technology. Water has been drawn from the source under the settlement of Pulachaur through the Drinking Water, Water Resources and Irrigation Division Office, Myagdi and distributed to households by making taps.

The project, which began construction in the financial year 2076/77, was completed in seven years, said Ram Prasad Subedi, Chairman of the Drinking Water Consumers Committee. ‘The delay was due to insufficient budget for the construction of the drinking water project under three plans,’ he said. ‘The plan for the lower and middle villages of Pulachaur was completed in previous years. We have completed the project by distributing water to the upper villages from this week.’

According to Chairman Subedi, water from Jotre and Padhera springs is collected in a 75,000-liter capacity tank and distributed to 20 households. Arrangements have been made to distribute water through three additional reserve tanks by transporting it from a ‘submersible’ pump of 250 meters to another tank located at Chulesi, which is 250 meters above the water level. He mentioned that water is being transported to the upper tank through an 800-meter-long three-inch pipe.

Sagar Poudel, secretary of the consumer committee, said that 182 families have benefited from the project. ‘Water taps have also been installed in schools, health institutions and ward offices. Arrangements have been made to distribute water by installing private taps with meters in everyone’s homes,’ he said. Secretary Poudel expressed confidence that the previous compulsion to carry water in jugs, bottles and gallons from public taps will now end.

‘Eight/ten houses have to wait in line to get water from one tap and sometimes There used to be disputes over water,’ said local Meena Kumari BK, ‘After water started flowing into the tap of the house, the time saved and hassle of carrying water has been eliminated.’

Jhalak Mohan Ojha, Senior Divisional Engineer, Chief of the Drinking Water Resources and Irrigation Division Office, informed that 21 million 148 thousand 348 was spent on the construction of the project, apart from the labor contribution of the consumers. The consumers have contributed labor at the rate of 10 percent of the total cost.

A ‘mobile operating system’ has been installed to operate the electrical equipment that draws water. Through this system, the consumers can turn on and off the water-drawing equipment from home. A building has also been constructed for the storage of electrical equipment, the office of the consumer organization, and the residence of the supervisor. .

Consumer Bal Bahadur Pariyar said that 20 days of labor was donated per household in the construction of the project. After the distribution of water to households, the daily life of the residents of Pulachour has changed. ‘While waiting for water, it was late to cook food and sometimes children could not go to school,’ he said. ‘Now, time has been saved and it has become easier to clean, and the daily life of the locals has changed.’
