Kathmandu. Former Finance Minister and Deputy General Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Center) Janardan Sharma has said that only grants that can be invested without policy interference should be accepted. Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu, he said that it would be appropriate for the government to accept only grants that can be invested without policy interference.

He said that Nepal does not invest in money but invests in policies, and argued that Nepal has not been able to develop as promised because most of the grants received by the government come in the form of policy interference. He said that since he could not invest as promised, the country has not been able to function according to its needs.

He said that it is necessary to accept assistance in a way that does not go up and down on the issue of nationalism and sovereignty. He said that it is necessary to accept only those things that will help long-term economic development.

Former Finance Minister Sharma said, ‘Our investment is not in money, but in policy. It comes in the form of policy intervention. We are not independent. It is not something that we can invest as we are told. What is important is that we do as we are told. If we take some decision to protect our country’s economy in the needs of our country, we should take a fund that can be invested in an independent manner, free from so much pressure, so much intervention, and policy intervention. But everything is tied up. There are policy issues that should be free from things that will lead us to a situation where we cannot use what we have. We should accept assistance that does not go up and down on the question of our nationality and sovereignty. We will take things that will help long-term economic development rather than policy-wise.’

Former Finance Minister Sharma said that if we cannot operate in our own way, we will not get it, and if we are going to get into more trouble by getting into the same debt instead of improving the situation in Nepal, then those things are not necessary. He argued that Nepal’s investment is happening at the root, not at the leaves.
