Trial production of Chimkhola-Mangale-Rahughat hydropower project begins

Myagdi. The 37.5 MW Chimkhola-Mangale-Rahughat Hydropower Project constructed in Raghuganga Rural Municipality has started test production. Tudi Power Company Limited has started generating electricity after completing the testing of physical structures including dam, dissander and tunnel of the project.

Tudi Power’s representative Indra Dhakal said that the electricity of the project will be connected to the central transmission line after the successful test. He said that the trial will be completed in the next 15 days. A 110-meter-long, eight-meter-high and 30-meter-wide water storage pond has been constructed near the dam at Bandi of Raghuganga Rural Municipality-8. Residential engineer Prakash Timilsina said a 950-metre penstock pipeline has been constructed to divert water brought from the dam from a 5-km-300-metre-long tunnel to the power house at Bagar in Raghuganga-7, Chimkhola.

The height of the outlet of the tunnel from the power house is 360 meters. Ramechhap Sherpa and South Asian Infrastructure Pvt Ltd are the civil contractors of the project. The tunnel was dug from four places.

Machhapuchhre and BMEW Nepal hydromechanical and Everest hydro electromechanical contractors. A 220 kV transmission line has been constructed at a distance of 14 kilometers from the power house to the switchyard constructed in the premises of Rahughat Hydropower Project at Tilkenichaur of Raghuganga Rural Municipality-3.

The transmission line has 49 towers. The electricity generated from the project will be connected to the 220 kV Dana-Kusma transmission line through loop-in, loop-out (lilo). The 48.5 MW Upper Rahughat Hydropower Project, which is the promoter of Tudi Power including Chimkhola-Mangale-Rahughat, is estimated to cost Rs 14 billion.

Upper Rahughat is also in the final stages of construction. Chimkhola-Mangale-Rahughat is the first hydropower project to be completed in the Rahughat basin. The 40 MW Rahughat, 21.3 MW Borokhola and 22.3 MW Upper Barokhola hydropower projects are in the process of completion.
