Kathmandu. Energy entrepreneurs have sent SMS to the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Minister for Energy and Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) at the same time to withdraw the ‘Take and Pay’ provision in the power purchase agreement brought by the government in the budget.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, Energy Minister Deepak Khadka and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya were sent a message by hundreds of energy entrepreneurs at one go at 10:00 am on Saturday to withdraw the take-and-pay.
Stating that the provision of take-and-pay PPA has been introduced to stop private sector investment in energy, they said in the SMS, “Abolish the take and pay PPA that eliminates the private sector in energy, causes load shedding, drowns investors and finishes the country’s economy.” “It has been mentioned.
Energy entrepreneurs have been protesting against the power purchase agreement (PPA) of river flow-based (ROR) hydropower projects to be constructed by the private sector only as per the take-and-pay concept in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2020/21.
Mohan Kumar Dangi, acting president of independent energy producers’ association Nepal (IPPAN) and coordinator of ippan movement committee, said that sms was sent at one go to press the government to withdraw take and pay.
