Kathmandu. Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arju Rana Deuba has said preparations are underway to rescue Nepalis from Israel and Iran. According to the evolving situation in Israel and Iran, the Government of Nepal will take all possible measures for the safety and rescue of Nepali nationals living there and is preparing to rescue those who want to return to Nepal.
In a joint meeting with the Ministries of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and The Ministry of Home Affairs held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Minister Rana shared this information during a discussion on the situation arising out of the ongoing war in Israel and Iran and its preparedness. Minister Rana shared that the Nepali Embassy in Israel was actively working in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, registration has also been opened for Nepalis who want to return home and the government is preparing to make arrangements for their rescue if they want to return home.
“It is also Israel’s responsibility to facilitate nepalis who have reached Israel under the G2G process if they want to return to Nepal or go to a safer place,” she said. For this, the Israeli government has been requested to help go to other countries through the border area. The Government of Nepal is ready to rescue Nepalis if they want to return home. In the meeting, Labour Minister Sharad Singh Bhandari said that the Ministry was also in constant touch with the Nepalis living there and the Government of Nepal should make preparations for the rescue of those who want to return home. She also said that those who are currently preparing to go to Israel have been stopped without giving labor permits.
On June 13, the day of the war between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had appealed to both sides to exercise maximum restraint and resolve the issue through dialogue and urged the Nepalis living in those countries to stay in touch with the concerned Nepali Embassy. On June 15, a travel advisory was issued with contact details requesting Nepalis to take maximum precautions from the security point of view. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday directed all Nepali missions in the Gulf to facilitate the provision of ‘online visa’ to Nepalis who want to go to safe places or border countries when the air routes are currently closed in those countries.
In addition, the ministry has started collecting details of Nepalis by opening an online portal and more than 600 people have registered on the portal so far. This continues. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had issued a travel advisory for the second time on Wednesday, urging Nepali citizens currently living in Israel and Iran to take maximum precautions from the security point of view and not to visit Israel or other countries of the Middle East from Nepal.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Rana called on Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Smulick Ari Bass this week and requested the Israeli government to make proper arrangements for the safety and security of Nepali citizens. Similarly, the Embassy of Nepal in Israel and the Nepali Embassy in Qatar, which looks after Iran, have been directed to establish close contact with the concerned government officials, organizations working in the sector and the Nepali community and to make ‘real-time reporting’ to the Ministry in this regard. Currently, there are 5,500 to 7,000 Nepalis in Israel, most of them in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa. Similarly, there are 18 Nepalis in Iran.
