Kathmandu. Lawmakers have claimed that more budget has been allocated in the districts of top leaders and ministers of big parties. During the discussion on the allocation of various ministries in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, they expressed their disagreement over the lack of proportional allocation of budget.

Taking part in the discussion, lawmaker Deepak Giri expressed his disagreement over the allocation of Rs 10 million for the construction of Tarigaun Airport in Dang. He said that although the government had made a provision that the budget of not less than Rs 30 million would be allocated, it could not address the sentiments of the lawmakers by allocating less than the required budget for the acquisition of the airport land.

Lawmaker Maneka Kumari Pokharel said that although the Prime Minister had given commitment and assurance regarding the construction of Tarigaun Airport, the budget allocation was low.

Purna Bahadur Gharti Magar said the allocation was not pro-people and realistic. He stressed on the need of creating an effective structure with the participation of the local government for cooperative regulation.

Lawmaker Ammar Bahadur Thapa opined that the budget was pro-people and not in the larger interest of the country. Lawmaker Ranju Kumari Jha demanded that the budget should be allocated equally to all the districts.

Ram Prakash Chaudhary said that the federal government has not been able to allocate budget for Madhes province based on reality. He complained that there was no work in the budget of the current fiscal year for the physical infrastructure of Sarlahi and the budget could not be allocated in the coming fiscal year as well.

Lawmaker Prabhu Sah questioned whether it was possible to collect tax from private entrepreneurs and industrialists when the government-run industries were in business and loss. Stating that the highways connecting the federal capital were closed and the citizens were facing problems, he said that the ruling party leaders had allocated only in the districts and roads had been constructed.

Lawmaker Ram Krishna Yadav agreed that the discrimination was done by focusing the budget only on the constituencies of ministers and big leaders. Lawmaker Ishwor Bahadur Rijal said that the expected budget has not been allocated in Dolakha, which has immense potential for the tourism sector.
