Kathmandu. Rupandehi: First Choice Food, a French fry industry, has come into operation in Rupandehi with an investment of Rs 2 billion.
Krishna Prasad Poudel, a businessman from Madane rural municipality-6 of Gulmi and living in Butwal, has brought the industry into operation in Shuddhodan rural municipality of Rupandehi.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel unveiled the first choice food product at a programme in Kathmandu on Thursday. Poudel said the industry has been brought into operation with a plan to reduce imports and make farmers self-reliant.
According to Poudel, the production is currently underway to produce 2,000 tonnes a year and the target is to increase it every year. Spread over an area of 5 bighas, the industry will produce only potato dishes.
Poudel said that 10,000 farmers are connected to the industry and their produce is being purchased by his industry. According to him, the industry is now working closely with farmers in 19 districts. Around 200 people are working in the industry directly and indirectly.
He said that preparations are being made to export to third countries including America, Dubai and Saudi Arabia. The aim is to make Nepal self-reliant in French fries, he said. He expressed the belief that this would help in the commercialization of agriculture. Poudel said that the industry is currently exporting to India and is preparing to export to Malaysia, UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The company currently has dealers in five places including Kathmandu, Dharan, Kathmandu, Nepalgunj and Dang and has 400 restaurants across the country. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel said anyone can do wonders if they work with integrity and hard work.
He said that it would be clear from the living example of Krishna Poudel, who returned home empty-handed from abroad. He said employment could be created in the country by replacing the import of potatoes.
He said, “Everyone can do wonders if they stick to one’s integrity and hard work and plan.” Krishna Poudel ji and his company are a living example of this. The youth returning home empty-handed seeks a future in the country and creates jobs. Today, he has done the work of replacing the import of potatoes. ”
Speaking on the occasion, lawmaker Basudev Ghimire said the government should support seed growth programmes. He said that production would flourish and farmers would be supported only if the government fully supported the potato seed growth programme.
“We have not been able to carry out seed growth programmes properly. The government should fully support the potato seed growth program that we still need. It takes some time. It is not enough to give subsidy only in general insurance. You need to help in respectful seed growth. The government should extend full support to promote Nepali industry on time. ”
He stressed the need for full support from the government to promote Nepali industry in a timely manner.
