Birgunj. Birgunj: Industrialists and businessmen of Birgunj have complained that the industries of Birgunj-Pathlaiya Industrial Corridor are facing problems due to undeclared power load reduction and power cuts. President of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hari Gautam, alleged that more than eight hours of electricity is being cut in the industrial corridor on an average daily basis.
“There is a problem in power supply in Bara Parsa Industrial Corridor. On an average, we have been facing unannounced power load cuts for eight hours a day,” he said. As a result, the industries in the region have been able to produce only 30-35 percent of their capacity. ”
In a press release today, Chairman Gautam said that there has been concern among the industrialists and businessmen as well as the general public after the electricity load of the industrial sector was declared free from load reduction in 2075 BS.
“There are about 1,200 industries in the region including cement, iron and steel, cattle feed, food, medicine, cigarettes etc. Electricity is a raw material for the industry. Industries cannot operate without electricity. Due to lack of easy power supply in the region, it is negatively affecting the country’s economy,” gautam said. The association has claimed that industrial equipment worth crores of rupees of industries is being damaged due to the negligence in the supply of electricity.
Nepal Electricity Authority Birgunj Distribution Centre Chief Awadhesh Dubey claimed that the power load was not cut for eight hours as stated by the industrialists and businessmen. Due to excessive heat, there is some problem in the balance between demand and supply,” he said, adding that necessary efforts are being made to solve the problem. The corridor requires an average of 300 MW of electricity per day.
