Miteri savings fraud case: Investigation underway against accused arrested in Cambodia

Kathmandu. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested Jyoti Bahadur Bhandari from Cambodia and initiated investigation into the matter.

A police team deputed from the Police Headquarters arrested 42-year-old Bhandari from Cambodia and brought him to Nepal on Wednesday night. Investigation has revealed that he had been living in hiding abroad through the then general manager Jyoti Gurung in a case of duping 144 savers and directors of the cooperative of more than Rs 140 million. The police had issued a red notice on November 15 to arrest him.

According to police, Bhandari, who lives in Thailand, had contacted the office-bearers of miteri cooperative and Bhandari to return the money.

Bhandari has been found to have obtained two different citizenships from Kaski and Bardiya and two passports on the same basis. According to the police, he changed the passport and citizenship details of other people and used the details of the fake people to cheat them.
