Chitwan. Madi Municipality has banned the use of plastic products. The 43rd executive meeting of the municipality has decided to ban the use of plastic products to control environmental pollution.
Jagat Prasad Bhusal, chief administrative officer of the municipality, said that the ban has been imposed as plastic products have affected the environment as well as human health. “The environment looks clean and green when plastic products are banned,” he said. ’
He said that the ban on plastic products has been imposed in collaboration with the Madi Branch of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry. He said, “It is a good thing to ban the use of plastic products in this area. ’
With the decision of the meeting, works ranging from emergency monitoring to creating awareness among the community have been started, he said. “We have banned glass and other items including plastic bags. Along with controlling environmental pollution, the municipality is going to inform the society about the harm caused by its use.
He said that the sale of tea in plastic glasses and the use of plastic materials has also stopped due to problems in waste management. At present, joint monitoring is being carried out to prevent plastic products.
Deputy Mayor khem Prasad Mahato said madi would be declared a plastic-free municipality. Chitwan National Park is surrounded by an intermediate area and plastic bags and other items have been banned as plastic has been found to affect human health along with wildlife.
He said that plastic products also reduce the fertility of the soil, so it has been stopped as it also affects the eco system of Madi.
