Asian Highway: Kakarvitta-Laukahi section blacktopped

Morang. Kakarbhitta-Laukahi section of the Asian Highway, which is being constructed with the aim of connecting Asian countries through road network, has begun blacktopping. Jagat Prajapati, chief of the Project West Section Itahari Office, said that the one-lane blacktopping work started from Laxmi Marg on Tuesday.

About 23 percent of the construction work has been completed in the last 15 months. The 120-km road from Kakarvitta to Laukahi under Asian Highway No. 2 was supposed to be upgraded, but only 95.76 km is currently under construction. Work is being done by dividing the eastern and western sections.

The target is to blacktop at least 10 kilometers within the current fiscal year. According to Sunil Babu Panta, chief of damak office in the eastern section of the project, 21 percent of the work has been completed in the eastern section. There is a target to blacktop 10 kilometers in the eastern section in the current fiscal year. 50 culverts have been constructed in the eastern section and 70 in the west.

The highway will be 50 meters wide in the market area, 24 meters in the forest and 33 meters in the rural areas. The construction started on January 1, 2080 with the loan assistance of The Asian Development Bank.
