Kathmandu. Ceres, the global electric vehicle manufacturer, achieved significant growth in new energy vehicle (NEV) sales for the first time on an annual basis in April 2025.

The company sold 31,488 NEVs during the month, up 12.99 percent from the same period last year. This marks a challenging first-trimester recovery, the company said.  Based in Chongqingliangjiang New Area, the automobile manufacturer has a strong presence in China’s NEV market through a partnership with Huawei.

Its flagship Model M9 incorporates state-of-the-art intelligent driving technology and has attracted those who have previously boarded luxury fuel vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, etc. The M9 has maintained topped China’s Sales charts for 11 consecutive months in the luxury vehicle category valued at 500,000 yuan (about USD 69,435).

In the first quarter of 2025, analysts linked the decline in sales to the transition that was being transformed into a new model. With the public distribution of M9 updated in March and the introduction of M8 in April, consumer interest has rekindled and now the possibility of sales growth is strong again.

Sales in January stood at 12,483 units, down from 5,236 units in March, according to sales data. But in April, the first full distribution month of the M9 edition of 2025, it rose again to 13,149 units.

Launched on April 16, M8 is the model between M7 and M9 and is priced between 359,800 Yuan and 449,800 Yuan.

With high-end features such as LiDAR technology and HarmonyOS cockpit, this model offers luxury Rusmart features at a price of about 100,000 yuan cheaper than the M9. The fact that it received more than 70,000 pre-orders within weeks of its launch also reflects the great enthusiasm of consumers.

According to Ceres’ 2024 annual report, the company sold 426,885 NEVs in 2024, up 182.84% from the previous year. But looking at the trends in the first four months of 2025, maintaining last year’s sales level seems challenging.

So far Ceres has not released detailed delivery data of M8, making it difficult to assess how much impact it will have on its annual performance. Although pre-order data show high demand, real distribution could vary due to factors such as production capacity limits, stock management and order cancellations, the company said.

Ceres’s sales rebound in April is also a sign that china’s entire NEV market is momentum again. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, a total of 1.226 million NEV sales were recorded in China in April 2025, up 44.2 percent from the same period last year. Of the total 2.59 million vehicles sold in China that month, 47.3% were NEVs.
