Myagdi. The electricity generated from the 6 MW Relekhola Hydropower Project constructed at Lekgaon of Narchiang of Annapurna Rural Municipality-4 has been connected to the national grid. Hume Consult Pvt. Ltd. is the promoter of the project and has started generating electricity after the completion of the internal test for power generation.
According to project chief Philosopher Kafle, the electricity generated from the project has been connected to the national grid after the successful trial of the transmission line connecting the machine equipment installed in the power house and the electricity produced in the power house to the national transmission line. Representatives of The Electricity Development Board and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and technicians of the contractor company tested the generation of electricity in the equipment including turbines in the power house and connected it to the national transmission through Dana substation under the Kaligandaki Corridor transmission line.
“The electricity generated from the project will remain on trial basis for about 20 days and if there is no technical problem during the test period, commercial power generation will start,” kafle said.
The project, which started digging the road from Besigaun of Narchiang in 2077 BS, had started construction of physical infrastructure of the project in 2079 BS. The project has constructed a 13-km access road from Besigaun of Narchiang to lekgaun to the dam and power house construction site. The approach road of the project has provided road transport facilities to the residents of Lekgaun. Though the project was supposed to be completed a year ago, the project was delayed due to last year’s floods that damaged the dam and intake.
Power generation has started by installing two turbines in the power house. Sunil Kumar Shah, electrical engineer of the project, informed that the project has been constructed by bringing water through the 3,500-meter long penstock pipeline by constructing water storage pond, under-switch, vendor outlet, inlet, fourway and other infrastructures in the dam area constructed at Relekharka.
The head of the power house at Hariswara is 510 meters high. A 4.3 km transmission line with a capacity of 33 kV has been constructed connecting dana substation with power house. Himalayan Bank and Rastriya Banijya Bank have invested 70 per cent loan in the project.
Sakura Power Construction in civil, Workshop Engineering Services Pvt Ltd in hydro-mechanical and Fellowship Energy Pvt Ltd India in electromechanical were awarded the contract for the project. Project’s Public Relations Officer Homnath Pandey said that the project has started generating electricity after completing the construction in the face of natural disasters including floods and landslides.
Earlier, 110 MW Nilgiri 1 and Nilgiri cassette, 5 MW Ghalemdi khola and 42 MW Mistrikhola hydropower projects have been completed and connected to the national grid.
