Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has said that the take-and-pay provision brought by the government in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year would be corrected. He made this commitment while addressing a program organized in Kathmandu on Friday.
Stating that the issues of take and pay and take-or-pay have been discussed in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, Energy Minister Khadka said that it would be corrected whether it was understood or not understood or for whatever reason. The Ministry of Energy has already sent a decision to the Ministry of Finance for this, he said, adding that the target could not be on one side and the work on the other.
He said that a lot of hard work is needed to achieve the goal. Power producers have been expressing dissatisfaction over the announcement of power purchase agreement (PPA) as per the ‘take and pay’ provision of river flow-based (ROR) hydropower project in the budget for the next fiscal year.
Minister Khadka said, “In the meantime, the topic of take and pay, take or pay has received some discussion. I have said it time and again, I have requested, whether it is understood or not or by mistake, it will be corrected and the Ministry has taken a decision and sent it to the Ministry of Finance. Because on one side we cannot walk on the other side. It takes a lot of hard work to achieve the goal. ’
Minister Khadka said that it has been ensured that 28,500 MW of electricity would be consumed in the next 10 years. For this, it is necessary for everyone to work together.
