Walling. Dipendra Malla of Thumki of Waling Municipality-5 has been rearing bees commercially. Malla, a civil engineer by profession, started commercial beekeeping by registering a firm named ‘Bee Empire’ one and a half years ago.

He said that along with the engineering profession, he started beekeeping of the local Serena species as a practice of entrepreneurship. Malla said, “I got basic knowledge about beekeeping from the time I was working in Waling Municipality. ‘

Malla, who had been rearing 20 bees before the registration of the firm, increased the number of bees to 80 after registration. The firm currently has more than 200 ghars. Preparations are underway to increase the number of ghars as there is plenty of grazing space in the farm located in the middle of the forest, he said.

According to Malla, honey is being sold at Rs 1,500 per kg and mustard honey at Rs 1,000 per kg.

“I have sold 1,000 kg of honey from the firm in the current fiscal year alone. He earned Rs 1.3 million from it. Apart from this, we are selling bees at the rate of Rs 800 per frame and Rs 9,000 along with tuni hives. In the current fiscal year, we have earned Rs 240,000 from the sale of 300 frame bees,” he said.

The firm has been purchasing tuni’s nest by signing an agreement with local furniture. Along with Engineer Malla, two others are also supporting him. He said rs 2.5 million has been invested since its inception.

“There is plenty of grazing in this place, all the products related to honey and bees are sold easily,” he said, adding, “I have taken beekeeping forward commercially for the practice of entrepreneurship and as a means of economic income.” ‘
