Complaint filed against Director General Mahesh Bhattarai, Chandi Ghimire and 13 others on corruption charges

Kathmandu. A complaint has been lodged with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against 13 civil servants on charges of corruption. A case has been registered against 13 people for allegedly colluding to evade kilowatts in electric vehicles.

The complaint was lodged with the Commission on Friday (June 12) on case number C-075429/2082-02-30. The complainant has alleged that customs evasion of electric vehicles has been going on in connivance with the Department of Customs and The Department of Revenue Investigation under the Ministry of Finance for the past few years.

The complainant has asked for investigation against Director General of The Department of Customs Mahesh Bhattarai, former Directors General Hari Sharan Pudasaini, Dhundi Prasad Niraula, Shobhakanta Poudel and Chakra Bahadur Budha. Similarly, investigation has been ordered against Director General of the Department of Revenue Investigation Chandi Prasad Ghimire and former Director General Chakra Bahadur Budha. Similarly, ram Prasad Pathak, former chief customs officer, Rasuwa Customs Office, Dayananda KC, former chief customs officer, Tatopani customs office, Kamal Prasad Bhattarai, former chief customs officer, Rasuwa customs office, Rajendra Prasad Chudal, chief customs officer, Tatopani customs office, Janak Raj Sharma, deputy director general of customs department, Ramesh Aryal, former deputy director general of customs department and Tulsi Prasad Bhattarai, chief customs officer of Rasuwa customs office have been asked to investigate. ।

In the complaint, it has been claimed that electric vehicles have submitted some evidence of customs evasion. According to the complaint, the Customs Department has submitted a circular issued by the Customs Department to recover the revenue swindled in EV vehicles, the specifications of the vehicles, the specification of the EV vehicles sold in Nepal and the proof of the specification of the manufacturing countries.

The Office of the Auditor General has also written in the 62nd report alleging that customs duty has been evaded on electric vehicles. According to the report, revenue of Rs 3.72 billion was evaded from Tatopani Customs Office and Rasuwa Customs Office alone in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS. The complainant claimed that he was compelled to file a complaint as the Customs Department did not take any initiative to recover the revenue even though the Accountant General had written an in arrears.
