‘Disaster risk reduction and sustainable utilization of resources on government’s priorities’: Finance Minister Poudel

Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has said priority should be given to disaster risk reduction and sustainable utilization of resources. He said this while addressing a program organized in Kathmandu on Friday.

Stating that Nepal is the most vulnerable country to natural disasters and climate change, he pointed out the need to emphasize on strengthening, accountability and effectiveness of public institutions. He argued that only strong institutions can truly transform the development goals.

“We are committed to collaborating with the World Bank Group to improve the public finance management procurement system and environmental and social security,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Poudel said, “As a country highly sensitive to natural disasters and climate change, we need to give priority to disaster preparedness, risk reduction and sustainable use of resources.” The support we receive in these areas will help us build a secure future. I would like to welcome the emphasis placed by THE SEPF on strengthening, accountability and effectiveness of public institutions. Only strong institutions can truly transform development goals. We are committed to collaborating with the World Bank Group to improve public finance management procurement systems and environmental and social security. ’

Deputy Prime Minister Poudel said the government was committed to implement the projects in a timely manner by simplifying the procedures.
