Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has released the ‘Kathmandu Metropolitan City Air Quality Monitoring Dashboard’ to view the data provided by the air pollution monitoring device installed within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City area.
The dashboard was released on Thursday on the occasion of World Environment Day. Sita Rai, chief of kmc’s environment management department, said that the details of PM 2.5 and air quality index shown by the equipment installed at 18 different places in kmc area can be viewed in real time from the dash board.
Chief Rai said that this is one of the important efforts initiated by KMC for a healthy city.
The air quality situation is indicated in six different colors. In which the green color is a sign of good condition. Yellow is a sensitive condition for medium, orange color is a sensitive condition for children, senior citizens, people with lung problems and people with heart disease. The color red indicates an unhealthy condition. This is an unhealthy situation for everyone. Especially sensitive sections of people should avoid it.
The purple color indicates that the health of all people can be serious. Similarly, dark brown color is a dangerous condition. This can have a serious impact on the health of all people. Especially for those who already have problems, it can be more effective. KMC Health Department Chief Deepak Kumar KC said, “The data received from the DASH Board will provide the basis for formulating policies, budgets and programmes to address urban public health problems.” ’
The air quality index will be given a color code and a health precaution information board will be set up. There is a place on board to put up an awareness video message on air pollution. From this, the progress of vehicle pollution testing can be seen. Air pollution measuring devices have been installed at Kshetrapati Hospital, Lainchaur, Kalanki Chowk, Balaju Baisdhara Park, Paropakar Women and Maternity Hospital, Thapathali and Metropolitan Police Force Regional Office New Bus Park.
