Agency. Three people have been killed in a landslide in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. Two people were injured and seven were missing, local officials said.
The landslide occurred at around 9:30 p.m. in Muta Township in Denkwen County, which is under the jurisdiction of The City of Kwamdo. The condition of the injured is stable at the hospital.
About 500 rescuers, medical workers and firefighters, as well as sniffer dogs, are engaged in the search and rescue operation with the help of ambulances, excavators and telecommunications and power supply facilities. The quamdo city government has set aside 5 million yuan (about $696,000) for emergency disaster relief.
Experts from the Department of Water and Natural Resources estimate that the landslide has displaced about 200,000 cubic meters of soil and stones. They have also identified potential second landslide risks.
