Six-point agreement reached between government and transport entrepreneurs

Kathmandu. The discussions between the government and the transport entrepreneurs throughout the day and till night have been positive and focused on resolving the problems. The talks between the government and the transport entrepreneurs concluded with the preparation of a draft of the six-point agreement.

Transport entrepreneurs had launched an agitation against the Gandaki state government’s decision to implement the guidelines to allow private vehicles to operate on rent.

Rabindra Acharya, information officer at the Ministry of Home Affairs and a member of the government negotiation team, said that an agreement has been reached to send it to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers through the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and request to the Gandaki State Office through the Prime Minister’s Office in connection with the guidelines brought by the Gandaki State.

Saroj Sitaula, senior vice-president of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs and a member of the negotiating team, who participated in the discussion, said that an agreement has been reached to suspend the agitation only after the Gandaki state removes the clause in the regulations.

It is said that the meeting will be held again today after no conclusion could be reached in the discussion held till late on Monday night regarding the guidelines brought by the Gandaki State government.

Earlier, a meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs at 8:00 am had formed a team led by Krishna Raj Panta, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. Eight representatives from the government were part of the team.

A nine-member negotiating team led by Bijaya Bahadur Swar, president of the National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, was formed for discussion.

Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal held discussions after the talks between the representatives of the government and businessmen at the Ministry of Home Affairs. After that, the discussion between the negotiating teams of the two sides at the Ministry of Transport concluded late on Monday night with a six-point agreement.
