Energy Minister meets US ambassador to discuss MCC project

Kathmandu. Us Ambassador to Nepal Dean R Thompson held a meeting with Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka today. During the meeting held at the Ministry of Energy today, various aspects of energy cooperation between the two countries and implementation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project were discussed.

During the meeting, Energy Minister Khadka said that although the works of the projects carried forward through the MCC project were continuously progressing, there was some confusion as the MCC was on hold for some time. He expressed confidence that the MCC project would continue to move forward and the US would provide more support in the energy sector.

During the meeting, US Ambassador Thompson said the US would continue to support Nepal’s energy sector. He said all possible initiatives and efforts were being made to take the MCC project forward. He urged the government of Nepal to extend support to continue the projects currently being carried out under the MCC.

The US and Nepal had agreed to spend $500 million and $197 million respectively for the MCA project under mcc. Under the project, 400 KV transmission line and associated substation will be constructed from Lapsipedi-Ratmate, Ratmate-Damauli, Damauli-Butwal and Butwal-Nepal-India border (Gorakhpur). Representatives of MCC and MCA and senior officials of the ministry were present in the meeting.
