Kanchanpur. Revenue collection in Kanchanpur has not been achieved as per the target. Although the government has made reform efforts to make the economy dynamic after the Corona epidemic, the revenue has not been collected as per the target.

The Kanchanpur Customs Office has collected only Rs 490 million by mid-April against the target of Rs 740 million in the current fiscal year. Rajan Babu Kafle, chief of the Customs Office, said that the government has been increasing the target every year, but the revenue collection has not been done as per the target due to the economic slowdown.

“Exports are zero after corona and imports have also come down. That is why the revenue collection is not being done as per the target,” he said, adding, “The department has been increasing the revenue collection target every year. According to Chief Kafle, there is little revenue collection due to lack of large-scale transactions and lack of large cargo vehicles. According to him, revenue collection has also been affected as the Sharda Barrage is open only for a limited time.

Office fiscal year 2078. Out of the target of collecting Rs 520 million revenue in 2079 BS, Rs 460 million has been set for the fiscal year 2079 BS. Out of the target of Rs 580 million, Rs 420 million, FY 2080. Out of the target of Rs 590 million, only Rs 540 million revenue was collected. According to the Customs Office, the revenue collection in the current fiscal year will not be as per the target.

Similarly, according to data from the Inland Revenue Office and The Tax Service Office, a target of collecting more than Rs 5 billion revenue in the far-western region was set by mid-April. The revenue collection in Doti decreased by 2.45 percent and Kanchanpur by 0.93 percent. According to the Inland Revenue Office, the revenue collection in Lamki decreased by 16.6 percent, Kailali by 4.13 percent and Achham by 2.94 percent.

Information Officer at the Office, Bijay Bhusal, said that the revenue has decreased due to lack of timely payment by the contractors in Kanchanpur, decrease in transactions and reduction in excise duty. Revenue of Rs 1.82 billion was collected till mid-April of the previous fiscal year.

Only Rs 1.81 billion revenue has been collected till mid-April of the current fiscal year. “If we look at the data, the turnover of taxpayers with more than 50 million transactions has decreased by Rs 3.6 billion as compared to the previous fiscal year,” he said. ’

Revenue collection has also been affected as the far-western government had to go through a budget vacuum at the beginning of the fiscal year. The province had to face a budget vacuum for a month as the state government was reduced to a minority without the passage of the budget. As a result, all economic activities came to a standstill. This, government officials say, has also hampered revenue collection. According to local entrepreneurs, there is no trade point in the Far-West, so revenue collection has not been done here.

Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) central member Janga Bahadur Malla said the government would only increase the revenue collection target every year. “There are no trade points in the far-west. Gaddachauki of western border is small, Sharda barrage is open only for a limited time, goods of businessmen are not coming in large quantities,” Malla said. He said revenue collection would increase if the government could control theft and smuggling at the border points.
