Bagmati. Hetauda Milk Distribution Project Office has been facing problems in storage due to high production than the market demand. Office chief Anjan Adhikari said that the capacity to store butter was 175,000 kg, but now 170,000 kg has been stored. Similarly, 456,000 kg of powder has been stored so far against the capacity of 500,000 kg.
According to him, there will be more problems as the storage room will be filled within a few days as the daily production is still increasing. The office has opened a discount shop as the demand for milk and milk products has decreased in the market. A discount shop has been brought into operation within the office premises with the aim of increasing the market consumption of milk and milk products produced by the office and distributing it to the consumers at a subsidized rate. “We have brought into operation a discount shop for the employees working in industries, institutions and institutions of Hetauda Industrial Area,” he said, adding, “We have been giving discounts ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 50 to consumers if they purchase milk and milk products from subsidized shops.” ’
According to the chief officer, the office has written a letter to the government offices in the district urging them to consume their produce. There is a problem in the storage room of the project office as the production is more than the market demand. “We have to buy milk from the farmers as it is a government-owned office, but there is no sale accordingly,” he said. According to him, farmers are finding it difficult to provide the price of milk as milk products are not being sold in the market as per the purchase of milk.
According to the office, rs 70 million could not be paid to the farmers as the produce could not be sold on time. The office, which has been procuring milk from farmers of Makawanpur, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat and Sarlahi, has so far stocked milk products worth Rs 1.5 billion in the storage room due to less sales in the market.
Established in April 2030 BS with financial and technical support from the Danish government, the project now has to purchase 15,000 litres of milk per day. However, only 3,000-4,000 litres of milk is being sold in the market.
Milk, curd, paneer, ice cream, peda and other consumables are sold at wholesale and retail stores in Birgunj, Hetauda, Narayanghat and Kathmandu. The project has a milk processing capacity of 3,000 liters per hour on 38 ropanis of land under the industrial area.
