Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has said that the electricity bill was indispensable to achieve the goal of energy development. Minister Khadka said that the bill was indispensable to fulfill the roadmap of energy development while discussing the power bill with secretaries, former secretaries, energy experts, regulatory bodies, senior officials of the ministry and representatives of the Nepal Electricity Authority today.
“The government has set a target of generating 28,500 MW of electricity in the next 10 years. He said that the government has given high priority to the electricity bill.
“The bill prepared through our concerted and joint efforts will provide long-term stability to the national energy sector and also attract private and foreign investment,” he said. The bill will lay down a clear policy and framework for hydropower generation, transmission, distribution and market management and prepare a legal basis to ensure the participation of the private sector.
Minister Khadka said that this is expected to contribute significantly to the economic prosperity at both the local and national levels by guaranteeing energy security. According to him, the bill is considered a step of strategic importance in the context of long-term planning, modern infrastructure and investment-friendly policy required to achieve the government’s target of 28,500 MW generation.
He described the bill as a “strong step towards building a prosperous Nepal”. Minister Khadka said that the bill would ensure a bright future for all Nepalis.
The government is preparing to present the bill in the parliament soon and pass it. Energy experts and stakeholders have also welcomed the bill and expressed confidence that it will usher in a new era in the energy sector.
