Banke. Banke National Park, which was established with the objective of protecting the habitat and biological path of tigers, has started developing eco-tourism.
Although the government has achieved success in the conservation of wildlife including tigers, the number of tourists visiting the park remains low. Only about 700 tourists have visited the park from Mid-July to Mid-April of the current fiscal year. Birendra Prasad Kandel, senior conservation officer at the national park, said that around 700 domestic and foreign tourists have entered the park since Mid-July.
“Although more than 50,000 tourists visit the park for activities including forest feast in the central part of the park, the number of tourists visiting the wildlife habitat area is around 700,” he said. ’
Although the park has achieved success in tiger conservation, eco-tourism has not been developed, he said. He stressed the need for homestay and hoteliers to make arrangements to bring tourists visiting the central areas to the park.
A total of 444 tourists had visited the park in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS. Kandel, a senior conservation officer at the national park, said the number of tourists visiting the park would increase if the homestay and hoteliers could arrange plenty of safari vehicles to ferry the tourists.
According to him, the number of wildlife in Banke National Park has increased and the park has achieved success in tiger conservation. According to the 2022 survey, there are 25 adult tigers in banke national park. Similarly, there are 422 species of mammals including 34, birds 276, reptiles 24, amphibians nine and fish 55.
Banke National Park, established on July 1, 2007, is located 15 kilometers away from Nepalgunj Airport. There is a protected area on the right side of the East-West Highway. You can easily get here by land and air.
Chairman of Gavar Valley Community Homestay, Krishna Lal Chaudhary, said that although the number of tourists visiting the park is increasing along with wildlife, the situation is not satisfactory. Gabhar Homestay, Khadkwar Homestay and Nayagaon Homestay are operating in the central area of Banke National Park.
Although the tourism activities in Bardiya National Park are increasing every year, banke is in a deserted condition, said Krishna Prasad Shrestha, coordinator of the Tourism Promotion Forum. He said that they were working at the citizen level to make Banke National Park known nationally and internationally.
