Baglung. Baglung: The Majuwa-Nepane road at Galkot municipality-6 in Baglung has been blacktopped. The road has been blacktopped 22 years after the track was opened.
The track was opened in 2060 BS with a length of about eight kilometers. The locals, who were fed up with mud in the rainy season and dust in the winter, are happy with the blacktopping as the road has not been upgraded for a long time.
The road has been constructed to connect the rural areas with the market, connecting a dozen villages including Majuwa of Galkot Municipality, Kades and Thana. The budget allocated by the Gandaki state government has been blacktopped. Work is underway through infrastructure development office Baglung.
Chandra Pun, an engineer at the Infrastructure Development Office, Baglung, informed that the construction company has been entrusted with the task of blacktopping about two kilometers of road in the first phase at a cost of Rs 21.3million. According to him, 80 percent of the work has been completed so far. According to him, M/S JV has been entrusted with the responsibility of blacktopping the road.
According to Pun, an agreement for the construction of the road was signed on May 1, 2081 BS. According to him, the deadline for the work is till June 15. Engineer Pun said that the construction of drains, blacktopping and slope works have been carried out this year. He said that there is a possibility of completing the construction work on time as the construction company is working at a fast pace.
Spokesperson of Galkot Municipality, Him Bahadur Bhandari, said that due to lack of blacktopping for two decades after the opening of the road, it was difficult for the citizens to travel and transport goods. According to him, the budget for blacktopping of the municipality’s roads is low, so it has not been done so far. Bhandari said that the work was carried out after the state government allocated the budget after taking care of it since last year.
Spokesperson Bhandari said, “This road has connected many villages in Galkot, there was a lot of trouble due to the vehicle getting stuck in the mud with the rainy season, dust used to cover the houses along the road in the winter, now that problem will be solved, vegetables and fruits produced by the farmers in the village can also be easily brought to the market, which will benefit the farmers the most.” ’
