Bharatpur. Children of the Chepang community have started achieving excellent results lately. Chitwan: Kandeshwori Basic School at Rapti Municipality-13 in Chitwan has emerged as the best school in the municipality in this year’s class 8 examination. The school has become the best in the first year of teaching in class 8. School principal Bal Krishna Thapaliya said that after the establishment of the school with residential facilities, the children of Chepang community have become better in studies. He said that the school has become excellent with the support of teachers, students, parents and various organizations. According to him, 13 students had appeared for class 8 exams this year. Of them, one got plus, seven got A and two got B plus.
We are very happy to get such excellent results in the first year itself,” he said, adding, “We have reached here due to the tireless work of teachers and students.” He said that the results of this school, where only Chepang children are studying, have excited everyone. The education of Chepang children has improved after Laxmi Pratishthan started a hostel with residential facilities in this school. Students are taught here from 4 am to 9 pm,” he said. ”
There are 27 community schools in Rapti Municipality. Of them, three schools, including Kandeshwori Basic School, have achieved 100 per cent results in class 8 examinations, said Laxmi Lamichhane, technical assistant at the municipality’s education section. The municipality has also taken this result positively, she said. Lamichhane said kanda’s school has become an example that schools located in remote areas can also compete along with the schools in the market area.
Kanda is known as the most remote place in Chitwan. Sita Bahadur Chepang, a local, said that this place is being transformed into an education sector without access to vehicles and electricity. Stating that children’s passion for studies has increased in recent times, he said that every parent has developed the idea that their children should be sent to school.
We still have to walk for two to three hours to reach here. The students here have to go to other places after passing class 8. Due to poverty, the children here drop out of school. Principal Thapaliya said that in the recent past, children who have passed class 8 have been taken to the hostel run by Laxmi Academy in Kavre to teach up to class 12.
Before 2072 BS, only class 3 was taught here. In 2067 BS, after eight people of the same house died after consuming poisonous mushrooms, the attention of various organizations and the state began to focus here. Seeing poverty and deprivation, Laxmi Pratishthan and Miteri Foundation started working for the upliftment of the Chepang community and the education of children. Laxmi Pratishthan has run a hostel in the school and the foundation has arranged for two teachers. Prior to that, most of the children here dropped out after studying in class 3, said Thapaliya. Even now, parents do not have the capacity to teach and if various organizations do not cooperate, the children here will be deprived of studies,” he said.
Thapaliya said that although he studied up to class 8 with the help of various donors, there was a problem in conducting the classes due to lack of vacancies. According to him, 10 teachers are required in lower secondary schools. At present, there is a vacancy of seven teachers, he said. Stating that there is a lack of toilets and libraries in schools, he said the state should pay attention to remote schools.
The school, which does not have even 50 students, currently has 150 students. He said the need for resources has also increased as the number of students has increased. rss
