Kathmandu. The Department of Internal Revenue has suspended nearly 100,000 taxpayers. A meeting of the Department held on May 29 suspended the taxpayers for not submitting their tax returns.
The Department had published a notice on April 1, 2018, making public the names of taxpayers who did not submit tax returns. The department had published a public notice to get in touch within 15 days. The department suspended the tax payers who did not come in contact with them within 15 days.
The Department has also written a letter to the Customs Department asking them to ban the import of 95,349 taxpayers. Sub-section (8) of Section 17 of the Value Added Tax Act, 2052 provides that the name of the taxpayer who has not submitted the tax return for six consecutive months can be made public and if the amount to be deducted from such taxpayer is left, then his registration can also be suspended.
In order to implement this arrangement, the Department published a public notice in the Gorkha Patra National Daily on 2082/01/11 and contacted the Internal Revenue Office or taxpayer service office where their business is registered and submitted the tax return within 15 (fifteen) days from the date of publication of this notice in the Gorkhapatra National Daily. ।
As per the decision of the Department dated 2082/02/09, the notification has suspended the registration of VAT by withholding the tax deduction of taxpayers who have not submitted their tax returns within the stipulated time.
In the option of searching the permanent account number on the home page of the department, if you enter the permanent account number of any taxpayer in the PAN Search, the details of the suspended taxpayer will be seen that the registration of VAT has been suspended as per the decision of the department dated 2082/02/09. The Department has requested all concerned not to buy or sell with these taxpayers if they are found to be suspended in this way.
According to the Department, if the taxpayers who have been suspended in this way want to maintain the registration by regularizing the transaction by submitting the tax return, then after submitting the tax return for the remaining period, the suspended list will be automatically removed.
It has also requested the Customs Department to stop the export and import related transactions of such taxpayers till the period of suspension.
