Kathmandu. Executive Director of The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Engineer Dinesh Bhatta has said that the task of deploying volunteers across the country for disaster mitigation and management has been taken forward as a campaign.
He said this while addressing a disaster volunteer mobilization ground training program organized at Lalitpur Metropolitan City on Sunday.
Stating that volunteers have not yet been deployed for disaster management as part of the campaign and the government has started working to minimize the damage caused by disasters, he said the role of volunteers would be important during disasters.
He said that success would be achieved only by working in coordination with the three levels of government during the disaster.
“Earlier, we had not done this to form volunteers,” he said. We are doing this new work. The role of volunteers is important in times of disaster. During the disaster, we have to work in coordination with the three levels of government, if the manpower working during the disaster is not trained, then the people going to rescue will be at risk. Therefore, we have tried to start this program with the aim of developing volunteers. We are starting this from Lalitpur and gradually we aim to reach all the municipalities. We are taking the task of deploying volunteers across the country as a campaign. ’
He said that the volunteer mobilization basic training started from Lalitpur Metropolitan City would be taken to all the municipality levels.
