Khotang. The temporary bailey bridge installed to cross the Sunkoshi River flowing through Foxingtar on the Diktel-Gaighat road section under the Sagarmatha Highway has been removed.
The temporary bailey bridge was installed after last year’s flood washed away a motorable concrete bridge at Foxingtar connecting different districts of the eastern Tarai.
Pashupati Gyawali, chief of Gaighat-Diktel Road Project, said the bailey bridge was removed after the water level in the river started rising. The Department of Roads had signed an agreement with the construction company for the installation and removal of the bailey bridge at a cost of Rs 10.2 million.
After the removal of the Bailey Bridge, it has become difficult to travel from Diktel to Dharan, Biratnagar and Kakarvitta via Gaighat and the Diktel-Halesi-Jairam-Ghurmi-Katari road has to be used to reach these places. This alternative route is difficult, long and narrow to travel.
