Gandaki. Chief Minister of Gandaki State, Surendra Raj Pandey, has stressed the need for developing technology that has easy access to disaster risk reduction.
Inaugurating a state-level seminar organized by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority in Pokhara with the support of UNDP and UNDRR in Pokhara on the formulation of the National Action Plan on Early Warning for All, 2082 BS, he said the risk could be mitigated if the government could work on early warning.
Stating that Gandaki State is the tourism capital and is also at high risk of disasters, he said that the loss of life and property could be minimized by creating a disaster warning system targeting tourists along with local citizens.
He said that the state is facing more disasters due to climate change. He urged all stakeholders to identify the risk zones in the province and be sensitive to the post-disaster role as well.
Gandaki State Policy and Planning Commission Vice-Chairman Dr Krishna Chandra Devkota said the disaster-related damage could be minimised on the basis of disaster forecasting. With the establishment of an effective early warning system, it is necessary to raise awareness among the general public about it, he said.
Nc Gandaki State Assembly Chief Whip Nanda Prasad Neupane, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Gandaki State Assembly Chief Whip Bindu Poudel, Kaski Chief District Officer Bharat Mani Pandey and Sudip Aryal, among others, stressed the need for effective early warning system for disaster risk reduction.
Representatives from Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are participating in the seminar.
