Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The government has indicated that it will strictly implement the legal provision of mandatory labeling with MRP on domestically produced and imported products.

The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Interest Protection has indicated that it will monitor and take further action against those involved in the business without labeling the goods. They are lobbying not to impose MRP, saying the market has been damaged by the maximum selling price and the fine has discouraged the businessmen.

However, the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has said that the rules will be strictly enforced, saying that it is against the interests of consumers by flouting the lobbying law. Department’s Director General Kumar Prasad Dahal said it was unfortunate that the Act, which came in 2075, has not yet been implemented.

Stating that he was working to implement MRP strictly at present, he said that mrp is not applicable in any of the food, motorcycle spare parts and medical supplies.

Not only this, dahal said that the government itself is actively implementing mrp for charging fees indiscriminately in schools as well. He said that money was also being collected in medical related goods.

According to him, they are selling motorcycle parts by erasing the MRP or not keeping the price. The Department is monitoring and alerting to implement MRP along with action. He said that not only the government but also the private sector should work to make the market healthy.

He also said that the unnecessary entry of foreign brands runs the risk of putting the market in big trouble in the near future.

Speaking at an event in the capital on Monday, he said, “Now we have raised the issue of AMARP in the market. The umbrella organizations of the private sector say that MRP should not be imposed. The Department of Commerce and Supplies is trying to implement what is written in the law. Where is the market going? What is the market indicating? Here we see where our economy is going. The Department of Commerce recently went into the monitoring of the education sector. During the inspection of 8-10 schools, it was found that the students and parents were extorting money indiscriminately. No one has spoken about it. Where are our consumers? Of course, other institutions are not strong without the regulator itself being strong. It seems that a regulatory body should be strong now. ‘

“The market is in shambles, there is distortion, I am not ashamed of it. It is so lame that now I have to openly maintain the price. Organizations have come forward to sell jathabhi. Medical suppliers found a heart treatment worth Rs 16,000 to rs 160,000. The MRP from India is Rs 16,000. The complainant brought 160,000 Nepali bills to the Department of Commerce. In this, the seller says that he does not wear the earpi. Such examples have been found in the market,” he said.

Dahal made it clear that he would not be afraid as traders and importers were now besieging them while monitoring the goods. Businessmen are protesting against the government’s decision to strictly implement the MRP.

Although the government is positive to control unauthorized trade, industrialists and businessmen should not be intimidated in the name of MRP, they said. Private sector organisations say it is difficult to implement mrp immediately.

Recently, four trade organizations issued a press release saying that it is not easy to compulsorily label all the products produced domestically and imported in Nepal with MRP. Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Morang Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Kathmandu Chamber of Commerce and Industry issued a joint statement.

According to the press release issued today, mrp label cannot be applied on imported and manufactured goods in Nepal immediately as the country’s industries, trade, wages to workers, banks, interest and electricity authority have been keeping the economy moving due to covid-19 and global recession.

According to the statement, “In Birgunj, the place where rice is produced, it costs Rs 2,000 per bag. The cost of transporting the same rice is Rs 3,000 per bag in Humla and Jumla. How much MRP should be kept in this environment? 2,000 or 3,000? MrP cannot be imposed as the transportation cost keeps changing. ’

They have argued that it is not possible to fix mrp to sell goods at the same rate across the country in a country with geographical remoteness like Nepal and expensive transportation fares.
