Kathmandu. Dr Ayan Banerjee, Asia Regional Director of Practical Action, said the Sagarmatha Dialogue has established Nepal as a leader in finding solutions for the climate risk community.

Banerjee lauded the Government of Nepal for bringing together the stakeholders and trying to find a solution based on the ecosystem from the mountains to the sea.

Banerjee said the Government of Nepal has sent a positive message to the world by initiating a multi-stakeholder dialogue by expediting initiatives related to climate change and finance. Stating that the Sagarmatha Dialogue itself is important, he said that the dialogue has also advocated on the issue of reducing the distance of access to resources seen in climate action.

Dr Banerjee, who was in Nepal to participate in the dialogue, stressed the need for a multi-country and multi-stakeholder alliance like Sagarmatha Sambad to discuss debates at the regional level. Director Banerjee pointed out the need to further expand the early warning system as the pace of disasters caused by climate change is faster than our actions.

He expressed the belief that multi-stakeholder forums like Sagarmatha Sambad would play a positive and effective role in accessing resources and advocacy as access to climate finance was weak immediately. He said the Sagarmatha Sambad is expected to establish Nepal as a leader in finding solutions for communities at the forefront of the climate crisis.

He said that new technologies have the potential to minimize the impact of the climate crisis, so technology including AI needs to be promoted as part of problem solving.

Practical Action has been working on climate change, early warning systems and renewable energy in Nepal for a long time.
